Daily Report 11-21-2011

Today we still worked on spelling words but I haven't figured out how we will do school this week. A part of me wants to take a mini break but the kids just don't want to do school on Thursday or Friday. Maybe we will do just that since we are not traveling to celebrate Thanksgiving. They really enjoyed comparing the story of "The Woman Who Married A Frog" by the Tlingit Indian Tribe that were located in the Pacific Northwest to "The Frog Prince " by the Grimm Brothers. Here is the photo of the worksheet they used to record this activity.
Next up they made Navigational Guides. They were super excited to be able to use real watercolors. I was able to get a get set of paints at Jo Anns this past weekend using a 50% coupon, and my 15% teacher discount:) I set up the work for them to save on time because our school day was short again because we were able to go to the Homeschool Connect at the library.

Here is the paper that has the information on about Navigational practices in history. They cut and glued this to a sheet of paper and then illustrated the information.

This is Kens' favorite page in her book.
        This is DJ's favorite page.
They spent about an hour working with their Montessori materials today. They both chose working with the Bead bars.

DJ also chose the Ocean Pin Map
          Ken did some language work.

At the Homeschool Connect they learned about Michigan. It was so much fun! Here are some pictures of some of the things they discussed with the children.

                                                              The State Stone

                                                        The State Bird
First dry cereal was Kellogg made in Battle Creek Michigan.

At the end they gave the children a snack, a cookie made in the shape of Michigan.

I really enjoyed this event it was a great way to connect with other homeschooling familes.
